Bringing Hope and Dignity to Those in Need

Our journey began in July 2016, with the founding of the Tembisa soup kitchen by the late Alistair MacDougall, in collaboration with Newday Church in Edenvale. Every Saturday, a dedicated team of volunteers would visit two squatter camps in Tembisa, Johannesburg, where they would provide an average of 400 people, mainly children, with nourishing soup and bread.

Recognising other pressing needs within the community, the team extended their support by collecting essential items such as clothing, blankets, and beanies. The impact of their efforts became even more significant in 2020, amidst the challenges brought on by the pandemic, which left many families struggling to make ends meet.

With a commitment to restoring hope and dignity, we continue to serve the local community by distributing basic food parcels and toiletries to families in Edenvale, and surrounding areas on a monthly basis. Our aim is to inclusively support all those in need, from individuals to families, safe houses, and our beloved “golden oldies”.

In addition to our ongoing efforts, we have also taken on projects to assist the homeless in Hillbrow, providing them with food, quality secondhand clothing, blankets, and beanies. In one instance, we distributed 130 beanies and 100 toiletry packs, containing essentials like soap, a face cloth, toothpaste, and a toothbrush, to those living without permanent shelter. The gratitude expressed by recipients reinforces the impact of our work.

We are immensely grateful for the support of all our sponsors, and proud to be recognised as a Section 18A organisation, registered with SARS as a PBO (public beneficiary organisation) for tax exemption under the Income Tax Act No. 58 of 1962.

Individuals and businesses who make donations are eligible for a deduction from taxable income, facilitated by a section 18A certificate issued by our organisation.

Join us in making a difference and spreading love to those in need.

“I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the food parcels you have provided for me, I was earning R2500.00 per month and your parcels would come just at the right moment every month.

Your kindness and generosity have been tremendous support. I am thankful for the care you have shown and given. God has provided and now I am excited to share. I am at a point in my life where I can support myself.

Please could you pass my parcel to someone who is needing it.

Thank you so much”

“On 28 December 2024, the Newday Church Reach team hosted a memorable Christmas celebration for displaced and homeless individuals in and around Edenvale.

Nearly 50 beneficiaries were served a delicious hot meal, pudding, and a thoughtfully decorated Christmas gift. These gifts, generously donated by Tomorrow2gether, added a special touch to the event, spreading joy and hope during the festive season.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Tomorrow2gether for their incredible work. Their dedication to uplifting the less fortunate is inspiring.
